After 34 years, Cher has decided the time has finally come to put her Malibu mansion on the market, listing the estate customized to her unique specifications for 28 times what she originally paid for it.
This week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the pop icon has listed her massive estate for $85 million after originally purchasing the property in 1989 for $2.95 million. She previously listed the home for $45 million back in 2009, according to Realtor.com. After purchasing the 1.7 acres of land overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Cher set about building her dream Italian Renaissance-style estate. The construction took almost five years to complete, and the result was a 13,200-square-foot main residence featuring arched windows and doors overlooking the ocean. The estate also features a separate gatehouse that can be used as a guesthouse, an infinity pool, and a tennis court.
The gated property is located on the Pacific Coast Highway with a driveway lined with forty palm trees and a courtyard featuring a Moorish-style fountain. The maid house contained seven bedrooms, including a primary suite with a meditation room and two closets, one of which doubles as a panic room. The primary bathroom is also designed like a hammam with Turkish wood screens. The home’s lower level also boasts an indoor-outdoor gym and theater. And, according to the 2002 book The Cher Scrapbook, the home also contains a climate-controlled wig room where the Grammy winner keeps close to 100 hairpieces.
