Whenever I travel, I like to pack one (OK, maybe two) perfumes that I’ve assigned as the official fragrance of the trip. That way, I have a scent memory anchored to that destination or time period for whenever I choose to relive it. My last international trip, to a prestigious wellness resort in Austria for some on-the-ground reporting, demanded a very specific choice: something compact enough to fit in my carry-on without getting tossed by TSA, calming enough to match the vibe of the Alpine oasis, and extra long-lasting so it would last through hikes, meals, and medical treatments without reapplication. Lastly, it would need to smell expensive, because my fellow wellness-seekers would expect as much — but we’ll get to that later.
After much deliberation, I landed on a luxe new formula that had just hit my desk before my flight: the Jennifer Fisher My Scent Rollerball Perfume Oil.
I was initially surprised that Jennifer Fisher, a jewelry designer beloved by her red carpet clientele and the master behind some of Jennifer Lopez’s favorite hoop earrings, had ventured into perfumery. That said, fragrance does feel like a sparkling accessory that amps up any outfit or beauty look, and Fisher wanted her new perfume oil to make a statement for the wearer.
“I want anyone wearing My Scent to feel confident and sexy,” she tells Allure. “And to smell like a fresh baked cookie.” Upon first wear, I didn’t flag baked goods as a top note, but I did instantly fall for the vanilla and coconut Fisher knew she wanted to include in the formula.
“The blend of vanilla and coconut brings back memories from my childhood growing up in Santa Barbara, California,” she says. “For years, I was combining different vanilla and coconut fragrances to try and create my own personal scent. Finding a scent that was a combination of surf wax from the beaches in my hometown, Montecito, and a fresh baked cookie is what I’ve always wanted.”
Australian sandalwood, pear, and Tonka bean flank the creamy hero notes, and it all comes together to smell equal parts sunny and cozy, like throwing on a cashmere sweater on a breezy summer night. Toting it around is just as effortless too: I carried the teeny-tiny rollerball in my airplane carry-on, my spa robe to and from massages and lunch, and even in my fanny pack while Nordic walking in the mountains.
